Job Description

Chief Investment Officer (CIO)

Houston, TX (5 days in-office)

Company Overview

Our client is a Houston-based, family-owned real estate investment and development platform with a 25+ year track record of acquiring, developing, and operating retail, industrial, and select office assets.

The firm owns and operates a portfolio of ~80 properties and is backed by a multi-billion-dollar affiliated operating business, providing consistent access to capital and long-term stability.

With immediate deployable equity and a mandate to grow, the company is entering a major expansion phase focused on scaling its investment platform across the Texas Triangle and select national markets.

The Opportunity

This is a newly created, highly strategic leadership role.

The Chief Investment Officer will serve as the #2 executive in the business, working directly with the Founder to:

  • Drive acquisitions and development strategy
  • Deploy capital across new investments
  • Build and scale the investment platform
  • Potentially raise outside capital for larger opportunities

This is a build-from-scratch CIO role with significant autonomy and a clear path to broader executive leadership (President-level).

Key Responsibilities

Investments & Acquisitions

  • Source and execute acquisitions across retail and industrial assets
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline across Houston and the Texas Triangle (DFW, Austin, San Antonio)
  • Lead underwriting, financial modeling, and investment committee materials
  • Structure transactions, including debt and equity components

Strategy & Platform Building

  • Establish and scale the acquisitions/investment function
  • Develop sourcing strategy, broker relationships, and off-market channels
  • Help define portfolio strategy and geographic expansion

Capital Markets

  • Evaluate and execute on bringing in outside capital partners
  • Structure joint ventures and equity partnerships
  • Leverage existing family capital to maximize returns

Leadership

  • Act as right-hand to Founder
  • Help oversee broader business operations and strategic initiatives
  • Build and lead an investment team over time

Candidate Profile

  • 10–15+ years of experience in real estate acquisitions, development, or investments
  • Strong experience in retail and/or industrial assets
  • Deep relationships across Houston and the Texas Triangle
  • Proven ability to source and close deals independently
  • Strong financial modeling and underwriting capabilities
