Under the direction of the Chief of Communications and External Affairs, the incumbent Public Information Officer I will perform the more difficult professional and technical tasks associated with the conduct of an Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) comprehensive communications and public affairs program. The incumbent is responsible for performing professional and technical tasks related to media relations, community outreach, education awareness campaigns, constituent affairs, public affairs, social media planning and development, video productio n, graphic design, and other related activities. This will also include, but not b e limited to maintaining contact with the media, writing Web posts, news releases, statements, talking points, opinion pieces, graphic content and copy, Web design work, maintaining the Web site and social media platforms, editing, and publishing official documents. The incumbent must work cooperatively with others and be an effective writer, editor, and speaker. The incumbent must exercise good judgment and be skilled in communications around complex and controversial information. The incumbent will perform assigned projects, which will include completing and implementing communication and strategic plans. The specific duties and responsibilities of the Public Information Officer I.Occasional travel may be required. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle. Travel it will be performed up to 25% of the time.

Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. This position is headquartered in Sacaramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for applicants residing in California, in accordance with Government Code Section 14200 and the Department’s current telework policy. A hybrid schedule typically includes working remotely and physically reporting to the office a minimum of two days per week; however, the specific number of in-office days and the overall telework schedule are subject to change at the sole discretion of the Department based on operational needs, policy changes, or direction from State leadership. Employees may be required to report to their designated work location with minimal notice.
