Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Assistant to support our attorneys in a fast-paced growing Workers’ Compensation Defense law firm. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience managing litigation files in a high-volume environment. This role is critical to ensuring efficient case management and exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Open, organize, and maintain electronic and physical case files
  • Draft, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings
  • E-file documents with Workers’ Compensation Boards and related courts
  • Calendar deadlines, hearings, depositions, and appointments
  • Coordinate with clients, adjusters, opposing counsel, medical providers, and court personnel
  • Prepare hearing and deposition materials
  • Request, review, and summarize medical records
  • Assist attorneys with trial and hearing preparation
  • Manage attorney schedules and maintain case status reports
  • Perform general administrative and clerical duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of legal assistant experience (Workers’ Compensation experience preferred)
  • Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation procedures and defense-side practices is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software
  • Experience with electronic filing systems
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple cases simultaneously
  • Professional demeanor and strong client service skills
  • Software: Merus

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Paralegal certificate a plus
