Seamstress / Tailor – Luxury Retail & Equestrian Apparel
Location: Ocala, FL
Employment Type: Full-Time, on site
Salary: $60,000–$95,000 annually (based on experience and craftsmanship)
Reports To: Retail Director / Store Manager

Position Summary

A premier retail and hospitality destination in Ocala, FL is seeking an experienced Seamstress / Tailor specializing in high-end garment construction, alterations, and finishing. This role supports upscale retail operations and discerning clientele by delivering exceptional craftsmanship and white-glove service for premium equestrian and designer apparel.

The ideal candidate has experience tailoring custom suits, designer clothing, show apparel, eveningwear, or couture pieces valued in the $2,000–$3,000+ range. Candidates with backgrounds in luxury menswear, bridal, couture, equestrian apparel, or high-end department store tailoring are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

Alterations & Tailoring

  • Perform expert alterations and tailoring on:
    • Custom suits and sport coats
    • Equestrian show apparel
    • Designer clothing
    • Formalwear and eveningwear
    • Luxury denim, outerwear, and specialty garments
  • Execute precise fittings, adjustments, hemming, tapering, sleeve work, lining modifications, and garment reconstruction.
  • Work with delicate and specialty fabrics including wool, silk, technical performance textiles, and structured garments.
  • Ensure all garments meet exceptional standards for fit, finish, and presentation.

Client Experience

  • Provide elevated, client-focused service during fittings and consultations.
  • Understand client preferences, fit expectations, and styling needs.
  • Maintain professionalism and discretion with high-profile clientele and guests.
  • Deliver a personalized experience consistent with a high-end retail environment.

Garment Quality & Operations

  • Inspect garments before and after alterations to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Maintain clean finishing, pressing, steaming, and presentation standards.
  • Recommend alteration solutions while preserving garment integrity and designer intent.
  • Manage timelines efficiently while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Coordinate with retail leadership, stylists, buyers, and sales associates.
  • Maintain organized workspaces, equipment, and alteration logs.
  • Assist with inventory preparation, garment fittings, and special events as needed.
  • Support operations during major equestrian events and seasonal peak periods.

Qualifications

Experience

  • 5+ years of professional tailoring or seamstress experience in luxury retail, couture, formalwear, equestrian apparel, or custom suiting.
  • Proven experience tailoring premium garments valued at $2,000–$3,000+.
  • Strong background working with structured garments, fine fabrics, and detailed finishing techniques.
  • Experience with luxury menswear, bridal, couture, designer fashion, or equestrian apparel preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional sewing, tailoring, and garment construction skills.
  • Strong understanding of garment fit, drape, and finishing techniques.
  • Ability to perform complex alterations with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple fittings and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in high-end retail environments or tailoring houses.
  • Familiarity with equestrian apparel and show clothing.
  • Fashion design or tailoring certification preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform detailed handwork and operate industrial sewing equipment.
  • Ability to lift and move garment bags, fabrics, and retail inventory as needed.
